On May 20 in Mexico, Muay Thai fighter Bui Yen Ly could not win the gold medal at the world amateur tournament despite her great efforts.

The final match of the women's 51kg category saw the battle between Bui Yen Ly of Vietnam and Josefin Lindgren Knutsson of Sweden. Both gave a well-balanced match. As for Yen Ly, she had many moments when she overpowered her opponent, landing many successful punches.

The Vietnamese fighter herself thought she would win with her performance. When the referee was about to announce the result, Yen Ly raised her hand to celebrate, but in the end, the victory belonged to fighter Josefin Knutsson. Yen Ly was defeated with a close score of 28-29.

This is a result that, according to Yen Ly, did not accurately reflect the situation of the match. Sharing on her personal Facebook, Yen Ly wrote: "Winning or losing is up to the referee, the referee must accept losing as winning. Ly herself only knows how to put on gloves and fight with all she has, exhausted herself for 9 minutes on the floor, thinking she could not raise her hand to take off the gloves. When you do something with the highest effort but the result is not satisfactory, there is nothing to be ashamed of."

Bui Yen Ly is known as the strongest Muay Thai fighter in Vietnam today. She has a huge record of being a 2-time semi-professional Muay Thai champion, 3-time world champion, winning the 27th SEA Games gold medal and many other achievements in the international arena.

Besides Yen Ly, Vietnamese Muay also had a silver medal from Nguyen Doan Long. In the final match of the 57kg category, Doan Long also suffered a 28-29 defeat to Mark Valovich. Thus, Vietnamese Muay did not complete the target of 2 gold medals. Thanks to 2017, Vietnamese boxers brought home 2 gold medals at the tournament held in Belarus.
