Ralph Lauren is reportedly the fashion brand designing the dress for Melania Trump to wear at her husband's presidential inauguration this weekend.

According to Women's Wear Daily, the future First Lady chose Ralph Lauren from a list of several other high-end brands to design a dress and a suit.

With numerous formal events taking place this week leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, Melania could wear a Ralph Lauren dress to the family dinner attended by 1,500 guests on the evening of January 19th in Washington.

On election night, November 8, 2016, Melania also appeared on stage with her extended family in an elegant white silk jumpsuit from the same brand. The outfit cost nearly $4,000.

Melania's choice of Ralph Lauren was surprising, as it's a favorite designer of many Democratic first ladies. Michelle Obama also wore the brand's clothing during her state visit to the UK in 2011.

During the US presidential election, Lauren was also a supporter of Hillary Clinton and even designed all the suits that the Democratic candidate wore in the debates with Trump, as well as many other outfits throughout the campaign.

While Ralph Lauren doesn't seem to prioritize politics in fashion, in November, French designer Sophie Theallet publicly criticized Trump and called for a boycott of Melania. Several other brands, such as Phillip Lim, Tom Ford, and Marc Jacobs, also announced they would not design for the billionaire's wife.

However, Tommy Hilfiger argues that designers should maintain a neutral stance and not prioritize politics when serving customers.

"I think Melania is a very beautiful woman and any designer should be proud to design for her," he said.

Designer Jason Wu had the honor of being chosen by Michelle Obama twice to wear at her husband's inaugural ball in 2009 and 2013.
