V.League 2019 Round 3: 7 Best Players of the Match
(Baonghean.vn) - Foreign players still dominate the list of best players of the match in V.League 2019. In Round 3, there were 5 foreign players selected, with only Hai Huy (Than Quang Ninh) and Thanh Binh (TP HCM) making it onto the list.
Substitutes shine
Of the seven best players in the third round match, only Tran Thanh Binh came on as a substitute, replacing captain Vu Anh Tuan. However, he scored the decisive goal that sealed the 2-0 victory for Ho Chi Minh City against Duoc Ha Nam - Nam Dinh. A young midfielder from Ho Chi Minh City's youth academy, Thanh Binh is only in his second season in the V.League. Being named Man of the Match, despite playing for only just over 30 minutes, served as encouragement for the midfielder.

Both Mac Hong Quan and Hai Huy made significant contributions to Than Quang Ninh's 3-0 victory over Thanh Hoa. However, Hai Huy's influence on Than Quang Ninh's gameplay was clearly greater, beyond scoring two of the three goals. The number 14 player frequently dropped deep to participate in defense, effectively relieving pressure on key areas. He significantly limited the effectiveness of Thanh Hoa's Rimario and Van Thang.
Heroes and villains
Dwayne Lynch was the most talked-about name of the third round. The number 11 foreign player contributed a hat-trick in Hai Phong's 4-3 victory at the 19/8 Nha Trang stadium. However, his celebration of taking off his shirt led referee Ngo Duy Lan to issue a second yellow card (resulting in a red card) and send the former SLNA player off the field.
Jermie Lynch's image was therefore tarnished considerably, even though he deserved the Man of the Match award from a professional standpoint. Jermie Dwayne Lynch was both a hero and a villain in this game.
Referee Nguyen Ngoc Chau faced protests from HAGL's coaching staff, players, and Pleiku fans for repeatedly refusing to award penalties to HAGL when Saigon FC players handled the ball inside the penalty area. However, Pedro Paulo's contribution to Saigon FC's 3-1 victory was acknowledged by the audience. Besides scoring the goal that put them 2-1 ahead, the number 12 foreign player, along with Da Sylva Dominique, did an excellent job of disrupting HAGL's game. This foreign player moved widely, participated in defense, and transitioned quickly from defense to attack.

Apart from the foreign player who played for Lampang FC (Thai League 2) last year, no one would have thought that this player had only arrived in Vietnam a few months ago. Oseni Ganiyu Bolaji of Hanoi FC was named in the starting lineup, scored a goal, and played the full 90 minutes instead of being substituted by Hoang Vu Samson as usual.
Simply put, coach Chu Đình Nghiêm believes Oseni Ganiyu Bolaji will effectively contain Viettel's striker Joao De Souza. This midfielder's energetic and cunning style of play has been evident in matches where both sides played aggressively to disrupt each other's game. The derby only saw two goals for the Hanoi team, but resulted in eight yellow cards and one red card. Having performed well in his defensive duties and contributed one goal, his selection as Man of the Match is entirely deserved.
The Quang Nam derby between SHB Da Nang and Quang Nam ended in a draw. Perhaps Bonifico Edson's selection was more a favoritism towards the home team than a genuine assessment of his professional abilities. Edson scored the opening goal in the 5th minute but played rather poorly. In fact, in terms of contribution, Duc Chinh's header in the 90+5th minute to equalize 2-2 had a greater impact than Edson's.
Olaha (SLNA) and Pedro Paulo (Saigon) have been voted Man of the Match twice in their three appearances. These foreign players have had the best start to the 2019 V.League season. In the 2-1 victory against B.Binh Duong, Olaha directly scored one goal and provided one assist. With Van Duc and Tuan Tai injured, Olaha performed exceptionally well in both assists and goalscoring. In SLNA's style of play, the number 7 foreign player moved widely, actively and effectively participating in defense.
Compared to the previous two seasons, Olaha's goal-scoring and assisting skills have improved significantly. The striker has frequently used backheel passes, one-touch shots, and through balls into the gaps between defenders for his teammates to run onto, surprising the opposing defense.
