President Putin's 'secret weapon'

In an interview with Russia 1 television channel, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed President Putin's "secret weapon" in conversations and negotiations with world leaders.

According to Dmitry Peskov, at official meetings, President Putin usually communicates with foreign leaders through interpreters. However, in more informal conversations, he often speaks directly in English without assistance.

"In informal conversations, President Putin usually speaks English, but in negotiations or official meetings, he often communicates with the help of an interpreter, even though he understands almost everything and sometimes even corrects the interpreter's words in difficult situations. I myself have worked as an interpreter at the highest level, so I know how stressful that job is," Peskov said.

During the two days of the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, President Putin held numerous bilateral meetings and informal conversations with world leaders.

At the G-20 dinner, President Putin sat next to US First Lady Melania Trump. Both smiled as they spoke to each other.

Melania can speak several foreign languages, including German, and President Putin is also fluent in the language.

Media reports indicate that Putin and Trump had a lively and natural conversation without the need for an interpreter. At the dinner, Trump was seated far from his wife, but close to the wife of the Argentinian President, Juliana Awada.
