In the 2026 Spring crop, Nghe An strives to achieve over 700,000 tons of food.
"The agricultural sector and localities must resolutely direct and advise farmers to strictly follow the crop calendar to avoid production losses right from the beginning of the crop" - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De directed at the Conference to deploy the 2026 Spring crop production project.
On the morning of November 19, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to deploy the 2026 Spring crop production project. The members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee chaired the conference: Nguyen Van De, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Hoang Quoc Viet, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment. The conference was also chaired by Ms. Vo Thi Nhung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Increase the area of quality rice to enhance the value of agricultural products
2026 will be the first year of implementing the socio-economic development plan targets for the 2025-2030 term. Localities will have mechanisms and policies to encourage and quickly apply science and technology and technical advances to production. However, the 2026 Spring crop production is forecast to face many difficulties when taking place in conditions of temperatures 0.5-1 degrees Celsius lower than the average of the same period in many years; severe cold and frost appear from the second half of December 2025 and continue to be strong in January-February 2026, coinciding with the time of seedling and planting, affecting production progress as well as potentially causing damage.
In addition, plant pests will develop in a complex and unpredictable manner, and some areas may be severely damaged, affecting growth, productivity and product quality...

Based on the forecast of production conditions as well as the set targets, Nghe An directed the development of plans, arrangement of crop structure, variety structure and reasonable season, suitable to the specific conditions of each region. Strengthening the application of science and technology, technical advances, safe production processes such as VietGAP, organic. In particular, increasing the area of quality rice to gradually build brands, trace product origins, and enhance the value of agricultural products of the province...

With the target of striving for food output in 2026 of about 1.2 million tons, of which the Winter crop 2025 is estimated to reach 75,175 tons, the Spring crop 2026 strives to reach 708,850 tons of food (because the Summer-Autumn crop - Winter-Spring 2026 always faces many difficulties in water resources, storms, late-season floods, pests and diseases, low productivity). Accordingly, the whole province strives to cultivate 90,500 hectares (hybrid rice 44,600 hectares, pure rice 45,900 hectares), 19,000 hectares of corn, 7,000 hectares of peanuts, 13,000 hectares of vegetables and 940 hectares of sweet potatoes.
Strictly follow the production schedule
After listening to localities and units presenting production solutions as well as making recommendations and proposals, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De affirmed: In order to organize and implement the 2026 Spring crop production to achieve high results in terms of area, productivity and output, units and localities must develop specific solutions, promote concentrated commodity agricultural production, form specialized raw material areas applying high technology, create products with high productivity and good quality in the direction of green agricultural production, circular agriculture, and emission reduction.

At the same time, it is necessary to do a good job of investigating, detecting, predicting, and forecasting pests and preventing harmful organisms from growing crops; although the water supply is not expected to be difficult, it is still necessary to have a proactive plan to deal with drought if it occurs.
Localities also need to repair the system of canals, embankments, pumping stations, culverts, etc. that have been damaged by recent storms to serve well and promptly the irrigation work for production; and soon develop a plan to convert the structure of crops and livestock on rice-growing land.
With the characteristics of spring crop production in terms of weather and pests, sectors and localities must focus on directing and advising farmers to strictly comply with the crop calendar and variety structure, avoiding the situation like in many past years, where damage often occurred in the area due to people not following the crop calendar set by the Department of Agriculture.
