The King of Dubai unexpectedly visits the office and fires 9 officials for being late to work.

Nine senior officials in Dubai have been forced to retire after the king conducted a surprise inspection of government offices and discovered that some were arriving late for work.

Dubai's ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, conducted an unannounced inspection of the offices of the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Economic Development at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday (August 28) – a regular working day in the country. Despite it being working hours, several desks of high-ranking officials remained empty.

A video of his visit was posted on the Dubai media office's Twitter account. His inspection was intended to "send a message," said Mona al-marri, Dubai's media official.

According to the Telegraph, a day after the inspection, Mohammed ordered nine members of the Dubai city executive board to retire, including senior officials from the legal and planning departments.

He thanked the nine officials but said he wanted to let the new generation of young leaders do the work and contribute better to the people.

King Mohammed, 67, is also the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is known for his frequent early morning surprise inspections to ensure government agencies are functioning properly. He also dispatches undercover agents to government offices to check on their service to the public.
