According to AFP, along with this issue, the White House announcement about the phone call between the two leaders stated that both sides agreed that the issue of peace between Israel and Palestine needs to be negotiated "directly".

The White House announced that during the phone call, the two leaders also "agreed to continue to consult closely on a range of regional issues, including addressing the threat posed by Iran." This information signals a tougher policy toward Tehran by the new administration.

However, during the phone call, Trump's proposal to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was not mentioned.

Such a relocation would conflict with the prevailing international consensus, which largely does not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In a statement on January 22, the White House did not seem overly enthusiastic about the matter: "We are only in the early stages of even just discussing this issue."

Like many other major countries, the United States still maintains its embassy in Tel Aviv.

Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has warned that such an embassy relocation would be a devastating blow to hopes for peace in the Middle East. The UN and the EU have also voiced deep concern about the proposal.

During a phone call between the US and Israeli leaders on January 22, Trump also emphasized the need for direct negotiations between Palestine and Israel.

The White House stated in a press release: "The President stressed that peace between Israel and Palestine can only be negotiated directly between the two sides, and the United States will work closely with Israel to help move this process toward that goal."
