Quynh Luu vegetable and fruit farm faces difficulties in consumption
(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the vegetable growing area in Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) is facing difficulties in consumption.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong's family in hamlet 7, Quynh Minh commune grows 2 saogreen onionsIn the summer-autumn crop, about 1 sao of onions has been harvested at this time. According to Ms. Huong, this year, vegetable growers have all suffered losses because prices have dropped sharply due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. At the beginning of the year, green onions were purchased at 2,000 VND/kg, then increased to 5,000 VND/kg and at this time the purchase price has dropped to 3,000 VND/kg.

“Due to the epidemic, traders do not concentrate on purchasing in large quantities, but only when there are orders do they come to purchase in small, individual quantities, not in bulk like before. Vegetables are difficult to sell, while prices have dropped sharply, causing each sao of green onions after harvest, farmers have to compensate for a loss of about 1 - 1.5 million VND/sao,” said Ms. Huong.
ToanQuynh Luu districtThere are currently about 700 hectares of vegetables concentrated in the communes of the coastal areas. In this crop, people produce about 90% of the green onion variety because this is a crop that can withstand drought well in the hot season. According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture of Quynh Luu district, the whole district currently has about 400 hectares of vegetables ready for harvest, however, because Quynh Luu is in the process of implementing Directive 16 of the Government, the consumption of vegetables is facing many difficulties.

“The entire district is implementing social distancing according to Directive 16. To avoid crowds, the commune requires vegetable purchasing points to gather at one point to hire vehicles to transport vegetables for consumption. In particular, focus on purchasing vegetables for people, finding and expanding markets to consume products, but at the same time, ensuring regulations on disease prevention and control when circulating goods.”

While vegetables in the field aretradersWhile buying at cheap prices, at markets in and outside the district, many vegetables are sold at higher prices than the actual purchase price. At the Giat intersection market (Quynh Luu), green onions are sold at 15,000 VND/kg; pumpkin and squash are 45,000 VND/kg; mustard greens are 15,000 VND/kg.../.
