Moldova's breakaway region denies annexation by Russia
(Baonghean.vn) - Officials of the separatist government of Transnistria said that information from the Republic of Moldova accusing Transnistria of planning to become part of Russia "is just speculation".

According to RT news agency, Transnistria's Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev has said that no one in the government intends to ask Russia for recognition and accession.
"These are media speculations, and we see them in the Moldovan media, as well as in neighboring countries. In our opinion, this is an attempt to divert attention from the 7th Congress of People's Deputies in Transnistria," Ignatiev said.
Earlier, it was reported that at the Congress of Delegates in Transnistria, they supported the Russian peacekeeping force on the Dniester River.
However, at this special conference, officials of the separatist government of Transnistria passed a resolution calling on Russia to protect the region from pressure from Moldova.
According to the adopted resolution, officials of the breakaway region of Transnistria asked the Russian Federation Council and the State Duma (the lower house of Russia's parliament) to take "measures to protect Transnistria from increased pressure from Moldova."
"Transnistria is under a lot of economic and social pressure, which is in direct conflict with the European principles and approach to protecting human rights and free trade," the resolution said.
This is not the first time that the breakaway region of Moldova has asked Russia for help. In May 2023, officials from the separatist government of Transnistria said they wanted Russia to increase its military presence in the region to counter the Moldovan army.
Russia has not yet commented on the proposal of Transnistrian officials.
