Look at the map to see where the British Isles and the South China Sea are located. Do British-flagged ships encounter problems when navigating the South China Sea? No one has spoken or written about this, but the UK's defense and foreign ministers have decided that British warships must undertake the long voyage to the South China Sea. However, even Defense Minister Michael Fallon has to admit that this action will certainly anger Beijing. It's worth adding that China also supports freedom of navigation, but opposes the presence of warships from non-regional countries in waters near its territory.
So why is Britain getting involved in the conflict in the South China Sea? To support its ally, the United States, and together confront China.
The current situation is reminiscent of events in the 19th century and the colonial attempts to conquer China. The initiator at that time was Britain, which waged the two Opium Wars against China. Later, Britain, the United States, and several other European countries joined the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion in Beijing in 1900.
That's when the whole world came to know the famous English song with the chorus: "Rule Britannia! Rule the waves!" The song became a symbol of British colonialism and London's immense ambitions across all the world's seas and oceans.
Perhaps someone in London now wants to rule the South China Sea again? Or is London being pushed by Washington to increase its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, expanding the ranks of the anti-China alliance, much like during the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries?
Today in the Asia-Pacific region, Britain is preparing to play the unenviable role of a puppet of the United States. London today lacks the mental fortitude to pursue an independent foreign policy. It is now the 21st century, the world has changed, but as before, war can take away a great deal of blood and cause immense suffering to innocent people.
Could someone possibly want to repeat the bloody pages of history? This could easily happen if the naval forces of various nations were concentrated in a small sea region with clearly hostile objectives against Asian countries.
