After 119 appearances for England, Wayne Rooney scored 53 goals. The former Manchester United player retired from international football to focus on playing for Everton.

After 14 years and 119 appearances for England, striker Wayne Rooney officially announced his decision to retire from international football on August 23rd, dedicating his energy and mind to playing for Everton.

The English Football Association later confirmed Rooney's final decision, following reports that Everton manager Gareth Southgate wanted him back in the squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Rooney said: "Before making this incredibly difficult decision, I discussed it with my family, friends and Everton manager Ronald Koeman. Playing for England is a privilege, every time I'm called up, whether as a regular player or captain, I feel it's a special privilege. Thank you everyone for your support."
