WHO confirms Quinvaxem vaccine is safe
On November 10, Dr. Kohei Toda, a vaccination expert at the World Health Organization (WHO), affirmed that Quinvaxem is still a safe and effective vaccine, of good quality and reasonable cost.
This vaccine was prequalified by WHO for quality in 2006. Since 2010, Vietnam has used about 24.9 million doses.

During the use, some cases of serious adverse events after vaccination have been recorded, but through review, it was found that the deaths were mainly due to coincidental interactions with other diseases. The rate of serious adverse events related to diphtheria, pertussis (whole cell) and tetanus vaccines (3 components in Quinvaxem) in Vietnam is currently 4.5/1 million doses of vaccine used, while the rate according to WHO statistics is 1 - 20/1 million doses). The rate of deaths in children after Quinvaxem vaccination has not increased compared to previous years. Quinvaxem vaccine has been used in 94 countries worldwide with a quantity of about 449 million doses. In Southeast Asia, this vaccine is used in Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
