A border commune in Nghe An province has urgently relocated 19 households due to the risk of landslides.
On the afternoon of July 21st, due to continuous heavy rain and thunderstorms in the area, the Nhon Mai commune authorities urgently relocated 19 households from areas at high risk of flash floods and landslides.
According to Mr. Le Hong Thai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhon Mai commune, on the afternoon of July 21, the authorities and functional forces urgently relocated 19 households with 65 people belonging to residential group No. 1, Xoi Voi village, Nhon Mai commune, away from their homes to avoid the risk of landslides.
These are households located in an area at high risk of landslides, following the flash flood on the evening of May 29th. According to the results of the field inspection after the flash flood, from residential group number 1 towards the uphill slope of Pha Mat mountain (Xoi Voi village), about 120m horizontally, a crack appeared with a length of about 500m and a width of 0.6-1.15m, with many sections sinking below the natural ground level by 1.05m to 1.5m.

“Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 3, from the night of July 19th until now, the commune has experienced frequent heavy to very heavy rain, posing a high risk of landslides. We have decided to relocate all 19 households with 65 people in this high-risk landslide area to the community cultural center of the village. The relocation will be completed this afternoon. Preparations for temporary housing for the residents are also being urgently completed,” Mr. Thai informed.
On the afternoon of July 21st, the Nhon Mai commune authorities mobilized local militia forces, with the support of the Nhon Mai Border Guard Post, to set up temporary shelters and arrange accommodation, meals, and living facilities for the people at the village's community cultural center.

By the afternoon of the same day, the relocation of residents to temporary shelters was completed. Local leaders were present to distribute essential supplies and encourage residents to feel secure while sheltering from the storm, ensuring their safety.

According to local leaders, this is a temporary solution. In the long term, the People's Committee of Nhon Mai commune recommends that the competent authorities consider relocating and resettling the aforementioned households to ensure their safety.
