(Baonghean) - Chau Khe commune is located about 16 km from the center of Con Cuong district along National Highway 7 to the West. With 23.5 km of border and a natural area of over 44,000 hectares, travel conditions and people's lives are still difficult. However, with the attention and investment of the State and the efforts of the locality, Chau Khe has achieved success in many fields, most notably in the field of health care and people's health care.

Having just returned from a meeting at the commune, quickly putting on his blue and white coat, Doctor Loc Dang Sao - Head of Chau Khe Commune Health Station took the opportunity to go around the departments to ask about the medical examination situation, then returned to his office. At the beginning of the conversation with us, the Station Chief Doctor shared: Because there are few doctors and nurses, and many patients come for examination, I have to go back to work with my colleagues after a short time. If one person is missing, someone else has to take over, which is very difficult.
Due to its convenient traffic location and good quality of medical examination and treatment, not only people from Chau Khe commune but also from neighboring communes such as Lang Khe, Chi Khe, Cam Lam, and Don Phuc come to Chau Khe Medical Station for examination and treatment with a number of 40 - 45 people/day. With a staff of 6 people, of which 2 are managers, the remaining 4 people, each person in a field, the station's staff must work very hard to meet the work demand.
Although it is hard work, the attitude of the doctors and nurses here in serving the people is very open. A patient brought his child from Chom Lom village (Lang Khe commune) to Chau Khe Health Station for treatment and said: Whether from outside the commune or inside the commune, the doctors and nurses examine and guide the people with the same care, moreover, the treatment here is better so I feel more secure.

Not only organizing examination and treatment with Western medicine, one of the priorities that Chau Khe Medical Station strives to achieve when reaching the National medical standards is to perform examination and treatment with Oriental medicine such as pulse taking for acupuncture, acupressure for some diseases; building a traditional medicine garden to preserve precious medicinal herbs. With the active participation of the locality and village elders, within just 1 year, the station has built a traditional medicine garden in accordance with regulations.
Station Chief Loc Dang Sao recalls: Striving to be recognized as a national standard in healthcare, based on the station's request, all organizations actively participated: young people and women contributed to leveling the station's grounds, prestigious elderly people from the villages contributed medicinal plants to build a medicinal plant garden, villages contributed cement, and villages transported soil to help the station level the grounds.
According to regulations, to meet the standards, only 40 types of medicinal plants are needed, but the medicinal herb garden of the commune health station has up to 100 species, including precious medicinal plants taken from high forests, deep streams and only local herbalists can find them.

Along with organizing medical examinations and providing health insurance drugs for people, in order to do a good job of preventive medicine, Chau Khe Commune Health Station periodically organizes training sessions to disseminate information to the community for women and students to participate; at the same time, conducts monitoring sessions and provides guidance on disease prevention for village health workers; organizes chemical treatment of mosquito nets for villages in the stream area... Thanks to good prevention work, for decades, although it is a remote commune, Chau Khe has not had any epidemics; if any, diseases only occur seasonally such as flu, bronchitis... mainly affecting the elderly and children.
Assessing the journey to achieve national standards in health care, Chairman of Chau Khe Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Ngoc Luyen said: Within nearly 5 years, along with an investment of about 1.3 billion VND to repair and upgrade clinics and purchase equipment according to regulations, the station must be fully staffed to meet the tasks of preventive medicine and examination and medicine provision for people.
Dr. La Van Lieu - Director of the Preventive Medicine Center of Con Cuong district added: Chau Khe is the second border commune of Con Cuong district (along with Mon Son) and the 8th commune out of 13 communes and towns that have met the National Health Standards. The above success, in addition to the efforts of the medical staff and doctors at the station, is also the decisive factor in the locality's attention.
While resources are limited, the commune invests in many projects for education, culture, etc., but the Party Committee and leaders of Chau Khe commune are interested and determined in allocating resources for the national health goals. Along with the issuance of resolutions and implementation roadmaps, the commune annually allocates funds to upgrade the campus and facilities for the health station. On the district side, along with allocating capital from programs and projects to invest in equipment for the station, etc.

Thanks to the above drastic solutions, Chau Khe today not only has the most modern medical examination and treatment facilities in Con Cuong district with full departments, examination and treatment rooms according to regulations, but also has a team of doctors and nurses meeting national standards and a very good foundation for people's health care.
Station Chief Loc Dang Sao added: Although recognized as meeting national standards, the local health care work still faces many difficulties and challenges. However, it is hoped that with the attention and active support of the local government and the guidance of the District Preventive Medicine Center, the medical staff of Chau Khe Commune Health Station will be united and determined to maintain the title of a national standard commune in health care.
