Formed on the basis of merging 3 communes Dong Thanh, Kim Thanh and Quang Thanh, Quang Dong commune currently has a total natural area of ​​over 75km², a population of over 22,000 people, with 22 hamlets and 39 Party cells, gathering nearly 795 party members. During the past term, Quang Dong commune has clearly defined its development vision, proactively innovated its leadership thinking, promoted its internal strength, and made the most of external resources for comprehensive development in all fields.

Over the past 5 years, the local economy has maintained a stable growth rate, averaging 8.78% per year. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction: Gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture, increasing the proportion of industry - construction and services. By 2025, the total production value of the whole commune is estimated to reach 1,291 billion VND. Annual budget revenue exceeds the estimate, total social investment capital in the period 2021 - 2025 reaches about 2,646 billion VND.

In particular, the agricultural sector continues to be focused on with a development orientation towards modernity, efficiency and sustainability. The application of science and technology, high technology in agricultural production is increasingly popular. Areas specializing in valuable fruit trees such as oranges, green-skinned grapefruit, peaches... have brought high economic efficiency. Up to now, the commune has had 6 products recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, including products; Dong Thanh oranges, Treo Vong honey, Dua Son honey, Quang Thanh hill chicken, honey turmeric starch, Kim Thanh peaches... a testament to the innovation in thinking about production and consumption of agricultural products.

The new rural construction movement continues to be widely implemented, creating a strong spread in the community. Economic and social infrastructure is constantly invested and upgraded. Roads, schools, canals, dams, etc. are renovated and built synchronously. Industry - construction and trade - services develop steadily. In the area, there are currently 4 stone mining companies, 1 tunnel brick factory, contributing to creating jobs for hundreds of local workers with stable income. In particular, Dong Thanh Brick Factory has invested in automatic brick loading and unloading robots, this unit invested over 172 billion VND to build a glazed tile factory. Total revenue from the fields of industry, construction and trade and services grows by an average of 722 billion VND per year.

Along with economic development, Quang Dong has also achieved many encouraging results in the cultural and social fields. The quality of education has been increasingly improved, schools have been gradually solidified, and the results of universal education have been maintained. The cultural and sports movement has developed vigorously, closely linked with the construction of cultural life in residential areas. The poverty rate has decreased to 0.93%, social security has been ensured, and grassroots healthcare has been strengthened, meeting the health care needs of the people.

National defense and security continued to be maintained, social order and safety were stable. Party and political system building work was focused on, improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party organization.

Entering the new term 2025-2030, Quang Dong commune has identified the key task as continuing to build a clean and strong Party organization in all aspects, innovating leadership methods, improving the quality of the staff; building an effective and efficient government apparatus, strongly promoting digital transformation, taking people and businesses as the center of service. Making the most of existing potential and advantages, moving towards a model of a new, modern, and unique rural area, developing the economy quickly and evenly on all three pillars: agriculture - industry - services. Taking good care of the cultural and social fields, ensuring social security, sustainable poverty reduction; maintaining national defense and security.

Comrade Nguyen Cong Chuc - Secretary of Quang Dong Commune Party Committee affirmed that Quang Dong identified 3 breakthroughs for the coming period, including:

Firstly, focus on perfecting the organizational structure, improving the quality of cadres and civil servants in a professional and modern direction. Promoting the application of science and technology, administrative reform and digital transformation is considered a key factor to improve operational efficiency, better serving the needs of people and businesses. This is also the foundation for the commune to build a digital government, promoting people's participation in the local development process.

Second, restructuring the agricultural sector towards ecology and multi-value, associated with the development of production - processing - consumption chains. Quang Dong commune will continue to maintain and enhance the brand of typical agricultural products such as Dong Thanh oranges and Kim Thanh peaches, while expanding high-tech production areas, developing eco-tourism associated with agricultural experiences, especially in the Ve Vung lake area. This is a sustainable direction, creating added value for agricultural products and opening up new service development directions in the locality.

Third, promote the development of industry, trade - services and private economy. Quang Dong is focusing on planning and expanding Cua Nuong industrial cluster to attract investors, develop agricultural processing factories, construction materials, and at the same time form commercial centers and adjacent residential areas to create momentum for rural urbanization. In addition, the commune will also create favorable conditions for business households and private enterprises to expand their scale and diversify their industries.

In the field of social security, Quang Dong commune continues to promote sustainable poverty reduction programs, enhance vocational training associated with developing high-quality human resources, and encourage labor export.

In the period of 2025-2030, Quang Dong commune sets a target of average economic growth of 11-12%/year, average income per capita of 110-120 million VND/year. The poverty rate decreases by 0.2%/year; the rate of hardened roads reaches 100%; universal health insurance reaches 97%; 100% of hamlets meet security and order standards. The value of service and trade production increases by an average of 29-31%/year; industry and construction increases by 35-37%.

The locality strives to have at least 8 products meeting OCOP standards of 3 stars or higher; maintain and improve the quality of 130-150 hectares of Dong Thanh oranges, 55-60 hectares of Kim Thanh peaches; and plant an average of 500-550 hectares of new forests each year. This is a step demonstrating the long-term vision and commitment to green, sustainable development of Quang Dong commune.

With the right direction, high determination and consensus of the entire political system and people, Quang Dong commune is gradually affirming its new position - confidently rising to become one of the leading localities in developing new model rural areas in Nghe An.
