Son Thanh commune is steadily progressing towards building a model new rural commune.
(Baonghean.vn) - Strengthening the political system, consolidating the New Rural Development Steering Committee, and building trust with the people through concrete actions… are necessary steps for the Party Committee, government, and people of Son Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district) to complete advanced new rural development by the end of 2020 and achieve the status of a model rural commune in 2021.
Strengthening trust from the grassroots level.
Following the 23rd Party Congress of Son Thanh commune, for the 2020-2025 term, a particularly important task for the Party Committee and government of Son Thanh commune is to consolidate trust between the people and the political system; thereby continuing to implement the movement to build an advanced new rural commune.Model New Rural Area.
According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Dao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Son Thanh commune: To build people's trust in the political system, Son Thanh has recently intensified efforts to build and rectify the Party, focusing on correcting the working style and conduct of cadres to be closer to the people at all times and in all places. The commune has effectively implemented grassroots democracy regulations, promoting the people's right to self-governance in all aspects of social life.

To achieve this, the commune leaders directly go down to the hamlets to understand the specific situation and address concerns at the grassroots level in order to find appropriate, reasonable, and receptive solutions. “To build people's trust in the political system, the style of officials must be people-oriented and exemplary. One of the necessary actions that the Party Committee and the government of Son Thanh commune have been implementing is ensuring that officials, especially key officials, are always close to the people; resolutely directing the resolution of existing problems and difficulties among the people, thereby building trust between the people and the local government,” Mr. Nguyen Khac Dao emphasized.
Immediately afterwards, Son Thanh commune began implementing several necessary tasks, including reorganizing the Steering Committee for New Rural Development, clearly assigning responsibilities to its members. Following the principle of using visual observation to change mindsets in implementing the model New Rural Development program in their locality, the Party Committee and government of Son Thanh commune organized study tours to two model New Rural Development communes in Kim Lien commune (Nam Dan district) and Quynh Doi commune (Quynh Luu district).
Following that visit, the commune determined that its immediate priority was to invest in infrastructure, completing the concrete paving of the transportation system within the commune so that all residents could benefit. Taking advantage of the trust and support of the people, while the district was still awaiting cement, the commune allocated funds to contact factories and promptly supplied 650 tons of cement to the hamlets for continued concrete paving of the main roads and alleyways.

In just a short period in mid-2020, with the contributions of the people, Son Thanh commune built nearly 8 km of concrete roads; along with upgrading and expanding several bridges and culverts in the commune.
"The people's trust in the political system is demonstrated by the fact that, during the recent road construction period, the percentage of households contributing to road construction reached 100%."
At the same time, Son Thanh commune focused on investing in the construction of several important infrastructure projects. Notably, Nong Trang hamlet invested over 1 billion VND, through social mobilization, to pave hundreds of meters of the cemetery with concrete and build waiting areas within the cemetery, in harmony with the landscape and environment.

Focus on improving the criteria that have not yet been met.
Son Thanh commune is currently in the process of implementing the commune development plan.Advanced New Rural Development, striving to become a model new rural commune of the province. Therefore, the role of the political system and the people is very important. Immediately after the Party Congress of the commune for the 2020-2025 term, the commune's New Rural Development Steering Committee re-evaluated the criteria in detail and objectively.
This shows that, out of the 15 criteria for advanced new rural areas, 9 criteria have not yet reached 100%: Transportation; irrigation; cultural centers and sports facilities; production development and forms of production organization; education and schools; health; environmental sanitation; and the political system. For model new rural areas, Son Thanh still has 3 groups of criteria that have not been met: Production - income - poverty; Education - health - culture; and Environment.

After completing the construction of an advanced new rural commune, Son Thanh commune will continue to invest in successfully building a model new rural commune by 2021, focusing on criterion group number 1: Production - Income - Poverty Reduction.
Currently, Son Thanh only has one new-style cooperative, while the requirement is to have at least two. The commune currently has a highly effective mushroom farming model, and the People's Committee is developing a plan to expand this model. This includes supporting households by providing land for production, organizing training in science and technology, and strengthening propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage some households to participate and establish cooperatives for linkage, brand building, and effective operation. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to eradicate poverty in the commune. In 2020, Son Thanh still had 25 poor households out of 1986 households, accounting for 1.26%, with only one household receiving social welfare support.

In addition, the commune regularly launches campaigns to encourage philanthropists, benefactors, and expatriates to support poor households and those with particularly difficult circumstances. To promote the image of Son Thanh, the commune's policy is to call on individuals and groups who are local residents to produce branded products upon returning home, and the commune is ready to provide the most favorable conditions for them.
The construction of an advanced new rural commune, aiming towards becoming a model new rural commune, in Son Thanh still has much work to be done. According to the Party Secretary of the commune, Nguyen Khac Dao, for Son Thanh to achieve the model new rural commune status on schedule, in addition to the active participation of the local government and people, it needs the attention and support of higher levels, especially in terms of investment capital.
