(Baonghean.vn) - With the mindset of turning the winter crop into a high-income commodity production season, Party committees and authorities from the district to the commune level have been actively involved, doing a good job of mobilizing and disseminating information, and issuing timely support mechanisms. As a result, winter crop production is thriving.

* Dien Tho commune (Dien Chau district) hires tractors to help people prepare land for the winter crop.

Previously, in Dien Tho commune (Dien Chau district), on 490 hectares of agricultural land, farmers only cultivated two crops per year, leaving the winter crop fallow. However, for the past two years, the fields have been covered in green with corn, pumpkins, gourds, and vegetables.

Ms. Cao Thi Hoa, Deputy Secretary of the Dien Tho Party Committee, was planting corn with her family. She said: "My children are all grown up and going to school, so I'm taking advantage of the day off to plant 2 acres of corn and 1 acre of pumpkins with my husband for the winter crop. The Party Committee has issued a resolution that all committee officials and heads of mass organizations from the commune to the hamlet level, and every family, must cultivate winter crops to set an example for the people to follow."

With the spirit of "Party members lead the way, the people follow," the participation of officials in the winter crop season has created a positive effect, encouraging farmers to follow suit. In addition, Dien Tho commune has implemented mechanisms to encourage farmers to cultivate the winter crop. Along with the three plows owned by the cooperative, the commune hired four more to prepare the land for the farmers. While the external service fee is 150,000 VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters), farmers only have to pay 50,000 VND per sao, with the commune and cooperative providing a subsidy of 100,000 VND. The total amount the commune has provided to farmers for land preparation exceeds 220 million VND.

Growing corn in winter yields an income comparable to growing rice, while growing gourds, pumpkins, and vegetables brings in up to 7 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters), more than double that of rice cultivation. Therefore, the Dien Tho commune government strongly encourages farmers to engage in this production.

Winter planting in Dien Tho is taking place enthusiastically throughout the plains.

Mr. Vo Xuan Thuong, Director of Dien Tho Cooperative, shared: "Winter crop production not only increases food production and farmers' income, but also gradually forms a new, safe agricultural production process. Therefore, in addition to bringing machinery to support farmers in land preparation, the cooperative is undertaking 1 hectare of corn and gourds and assigning staff to closely monitor the fields and guide farmers on planting techniques, determined to complete the entire area by October 10th."

With the guiding principle of comprehensive development in terms of area, productivity, and income value of agricultural products, Thanh Chuong district strives to plant 5,200 hectares of short-term crops in the winter season, including 3,500 hectares of corn, 800 hectares of vegetables, and 700 hectares of cassava...

District BRational planning, increased investment in intensive farming, and increased corn acreage on hilly, double-cropped rice land, and other reliable areas are recommended. In addition to traditional crops such as cauliflower, zucchini, and bitter melon, corn varieties with high biomass yields should be planted to support livestock farming.

Establishing concentrated vegetable growing areas and applying safe vegetable farming practices, while simultaneously expanding scale and investing in intensive cultivation, will result in large volumes of produce.

Along with planting activities, the district launched a campaign to eradicate rats, combined with a nationwide movement to improve transportation and irrigation infrastructure, including dredging and repairing inland canals and drainage systems. Simultaneously, inspection teams were formed to check the quality of various plant varieties and agricultural supplies used in production in each commune.
