Traffic police officer who hit and killed a person and fled identified

On July 8, Chau Duc District Police (Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province) said they are coordinating with the District People's Procuracy and professional units to investigate the cause of the accident that left one person dead in this district.

According to Chau Duc District Police, at around 10:30 p.m. on July 6, a traffic accident occurred between a car and a motorbike in Chau Duc District, resulting in the death of the motorbike driver. After the accident, the car left the scene.

The car was damaged after the accident.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the car that collided with the motorbike was Major Thai Van Hung, currently working at the Traffic Police Department of Chau Duc District Police.

According to Chau Duc district leaders, Mr. Hung's initial statement showed that after causing the accident, he thought the victim's injuries were minor, so he left the scene.

After traveling a few kilometers, Mr. Hung continued to cause an accident. Luckily, he did not injure anyone, but he himself was injured and is currently being treated in Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding the suspicion that Mr. Hung used alcohol while driving, according to the police, it is still not possible to determine and must wait for the test results. The police are still investigating.

Previously, at around 10:30 p.m. on July 6, Mr. Duong Van Tot was driving a motorbike on National Highway 56 from Ba Ria City to Long Khanh City (Dong Nai Province). When he was almost home, he was hit from behind by a car with license plate 150.62 traveling in the same direction. The victim was thrown about 20 meters from the collision site. The motorbike was stuck under the car and dragged nearly 100 meters before stopping.

Mr. Duong Tan Loc (the victim's son) said that when he saw his father's motorbike under the car, he asked the driver to back up to check. The driver got out, said a few words, then backed up and sped away from the scene. Not seeing his father under the car, when Mr. Loc backed up, he discovered the victim lying dead on the side of the road.

On July 7, a man who confirmed to be Mr. Hung's biological father and another who claimed to be his mother-in-law went to the victim's family home to visit and burn incense after the accident.
