More suspects identified in case of fake army general who defrauded 1,000 people.
In addition to the five people already charged, police have determined that Long's fraud ring also had accomplices who were pulling the strings behind him.
On July 4th, the Hanoi Police Investigation Agency announced that many victims had come to the headquarters to report being victims of Hoa Huu Long and his accomplices, having paid money to secure employment at the Indochina Group (code name S10). The victim, named Nam, stated that in 2015 he met Long, who introduced himself as a brigadier general. To gain his trust, Long showed Nam a photograph of a "promotion to brigadier general" on his mobile phone.
During their meetings, Long boasted that he had been tasked with establishing the Indochina Group (codename S10), with the position of Commander-in-Chief. Long invited Nam to join this group.
Mr. Nam was also shown official documents and papers related to the establishment of the corporation by Nguyen Minh Son, the "Deputy Commander of S10," via images stored on his mobile phone. When Mr. Nam expressed his desire to photograph these documents, Son said they were classified.
After several interactions, Mr. Nam agreed to join the corporation, transferring money to them three times via bank account and in person, totaling hundreds of millions of VND. However, no receipts were issued for these transactions.
Many other victims also reported having paid between 65 million and 150 million VND to Long's accomplices to be recruited as officers in the army and the S10 corporation.
In Ha Tinh, many people also paid between 150 million and 600 million VND.Long's contact person was Pham Quang Thang.Depending on the desired rank and position (the lowest being a captain, the highest a colonel...). The police are currently verifying the identity of this suspect, Thang.
Authorities have confirmed that S10 does not exist, and Long impersonated a brigadier general to defraud approximately 1,000 people, appropriating hundreds of billions of VND.
