The 'Mummy' returns with Tom Cruise.
To counter Marvel's superhero "universe," Universal decided to create a monster series. The Mummy was the opening film for the studio's "monster universe."
Released in 1999, *The Mummy*, starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, truly captivated audiences worldwide. The story of the Egyptian pharaohs' tombs has always been a fascinating mystery, and now, with it interwoven into an action-adventure, horror film, it became even more irresistibly appealing.

The second film, The Mummy Returns, released in 2001, continued the success. The third film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), was not as successful as the first two. All three films grossed $1.4 billion worldwide for Universal.
However, Universal has decided to reboot The Mummy.
Universal's new Mummy trailer shows that this adventure will continue the hero-and-beauty model. Actor Tom Cruise, known for his heroic roles, will play Nick Morton alongside the beautiful Annabelle Wallis in an adventure into the world of mummies.
