Building a peaceful and friendly Vietnam-Laos border.

Attending the event were Comrade Khamphoi VANASANE - Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction. On the Vietnamese side were: Comrade Hoang Cong Thuy - Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Comrade Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province; and Comrade Nguyen Dinh Hung - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province.

Vietnam and Laos share a border of over 2,337 km, traversing nine border provinces and cities of Vietnam. To date, the two countries have completed the demarcation of the border at 1,002 points, constructed 905 border markers, and completed the mapping of the Vietnam-Laos border. Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Hoang Cong Thuy, emphasized the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, which has been diligently nurtured by generations of leaders and people of both countries. Therefore, this conference is taking place at a very special time, right after the successful National Congresses of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. This is an important milestone for the two Fatherland Fronts to concretize the resolutions of the congresses and the strategic orientations of the high-level leaders of both countries. Building a peaceful and stable border is not only significant for national security and defense, but also provides a solid foundation for economic development and improving the lives of people in border areas. Building a peaceful, friendly, and cooperative Vietnam-Laos border for mutual development is a continuous and long-term task for the entire political system, in which the role of the Fatherland Front is extremely important.

More than three years after the signing of the joint communiqué of the international conference on building a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and mutually developing Laos-Vietnam border for the period 2022-2025, many impressive results have been achieved. Cooperation has become increasingly substantive, extensive, effective, and continuously developing across all fields. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has regularly coordinated with ministries, agencies, member organizations, and localities to promote the implementation of the communiqué, and collaborated with the Border Guard Command in strengthening the management of people in border areas, security, defense, environmental protection, and poverty reduction for ethnic minorities in border regions. The coordination between the Standing Committees of the Fatherland Front Committees of the provinces and relevant departments and agencies in building a peaceful and friendly border has been well implemented. Border guards in the provinces have effectively coordinated and fulfilled their responsibilities in mobilizing the entire population to participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and border security in the new situation. The work of disseminating information and mobilizing the people to implement the Party and State's policies related to people-to-people diplomacy; the political security situation, social order and safety along the border; and work related to Vietnamese people abroad has been organized and carried out by the Fatherland Front and other mass organizations with diverse content and forms.

At the conference, the two sides signed a Competition Agreement with a unified action plan between the Fronts of the provinces sharing a common border between the two countries for the period 2026-2028, demonstrating a shared determination to consolidate and cultivate the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
