The Mercedes-AMG GT XX electric car set a record by completing over 40,000 km, running continuously for 7 days, and breaking 26 world records.

Electric vehicle sets record for running continuously for 7 days.

At the Nardo racetrack in Italy, the Mercedes-AMG GT XX, the predecessor concept to the AMG GT EV, achieved an unprecedented feat: completing a distance of 40,075 km in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds, equivalent to the circumference of the Earth.

Not only that, the team also managed to cover 40,233 km in 7 days, 14 hours, 9 minutes, and 52 seconds, setting a new milestone for the electric vehicle industry.

This four-door electric sedan ran continuously at 299 km/h, only stopping for fast charging at 850 kW. This achievement helped Mercedes break the previous record of the XPeng P7 (2,521 km/24h) by reaching 5,479 km in 24 hours.

Breaking 26 world records.

During the 8-day journey, the team of 17 drivers took turns behind the wheel, almost without stopping. As a result, the GT XX EV set 26 sub-records, including the longest distance covered in 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, and 168 hours.

TimeDistance traveled (km)
12 o'clock2,749,924
24 hours (1 day)5,478,881
48 hours (2 days)10,859,526
72 hours (3 days)16,250,444
96 hours (4 days)21,632,451
120 hours (5 days)26,807,575
144 hours (6 days)32,099,133
168 hours (7 days)37,259,955

Mercedes equips the GT XX with an NCMA (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese-Aluminum) battery pack with an energy density of 300 Wh/kg, comprising over 3,000 cells. A non-conductive oil cooling system helps control the temperature of each cell, allowing the car to maintain a charging capacity of 850 kW without sacrificing performance.

As a result, with just 5 minutes of charging, the car can travel approximately 399 km, completely resolving concerns about range and charging time.

The GT XX concept model features three oil-cooled Yasa electric motors, delivering a total output of over 1,300 horsepower. Two rear-mounted motors integrate with a gearbox and inverter in a single housing, while the front motor acts as a booster when needed, providing superior acceleration and performance.

Despite being a concept car, the GT XX is considered the closest prototype to the upcoming commercial four-door Mercedes-AMG GT. Battery technology, ultra-fast charging systems, and high-performance electric motors are expected to be inherited before being introduced to more affordable Mercedes-Benz models in the future.
