Locals have reported that for several days, a business has been illegally excavating soil in the Len Doi area, Hamlet 12, Nghi Yen Commune, Nghi Loc District (Nghe An Province).

On February 27th, reporters present at the Lèn Dơi area witnessed illegal land excavation activities taking place exactly as residents had reported. At the scene, an excavator was operating at full capacity, scooping up soil and loading it onto trucks. Trucks lined up one after another to "collect soil" without any inspection or intervention from the authorities.

The excavators are digging deep into the mountain, leaving many areas unevenly dug and creating deep pits. According to local residents, this illegal land mining operation belongs to Duc Hai Company, located in Nghi Yen commune.

Upon noticing strangers taking photos and videos, the drivers alerted each other, and the illegal land excavation activity was immediately halted. When contacted, the reporter learned that the leaders of the Nghi Loc District People's Committee would request the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to conduct an immediate on-site inspection.

Mr. Dau Xuan Luan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghi Yen commune, Nghi Loc district, stated that upon receiving the complaint, the commune sent people to catch the perpetrators red-handed, but all mining activities had stopped. Mining equipment such as excavators and large trucks were simply parked in one place and there was no actual soil extraction taking place.

“This area has not been licensed for soil mining by the authorities, so the soil extraction activities are illegal. I have assigned my colleagues to continue monitoring the illegal soil mining here, but they have stopped mining since yesterday…” Mr. Luan said.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Diep, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nghi Loc District, also stated: “After receiving information from the press, I assigned my colleagues to coordinate with the commune forces and the district police to go to the scene to handle the situation. However, when our forces arrived at the land exploitation site, the exploitation was no longer taking place. The equipment was parked there, and no one was present...”

"In the coming period, I have requested the police force to strengthen supervision to prevent illegal land exploitation activities in the area, which lead to resource depletion. If we see any exploitation activities, we will handle them immediately, without cover-up and absolutely without giving any green light...", Mr. Diep affirmed.
