The incident happened at Drottningatan, one of the city's major pedestrian streets, at around 3pm today, according to BBC.
At least two people were killed and several injured when a truck plowed into a crowd in central Stockholm, Swedish police said, Reuters reported. Meanwhile, Sveriges and EKOT radio stations reported three deaths.
The area has been cordoned off by police.
"I saw hundreds of people running, running like hell," a witness named Anna told Aftonbladet. She also fled the scene. Several witnesses said they saw people lying on the ground.
The truck crashed into the Ahlens store on Drottningatan Street and smoke billowed from the scene. Helicopters hovered over the centre of the capital while a large number of police and ambulances were sent to the scene.
It is not yet clear whether this was an attack or an accident, but the incident comes after a series of attacks in Europe in which the perpetrators used cars as weapons.
