Trial of 68-year-old 'bluebeard' who ruined the life of an 8th grade female student

Admitting to having "done adult things" with a teenage girl many times, the defendant said he was "proud to have a son together...".

On the morning of September 12, the People's Court of Nghe An province tried the defendant Uong Nhat Duoc (68 years old, residing in Vinh city) for two crimes of Rape of a child and Sexual intercourse with a child. In a gray outfit, with his silver hair cut short, Mr. Duoc occasionally looked back at the victim, a 14-year-old girl with whom he had a child, sitting sadly next to her mother.

According to the indictment, Mr. Duoc knew that Ms. Thuy's family made wine, so he often came to buy it, and then became acquainted. On the afternoon of April 19, 2014, he came to buy wine, but only Tuyet (12 years old, Ms. Thuy's daughter) was in the house. Holding the bottle of wine the girl gave him, Mr. Duoc did not go home but sat there drinking, while Tuyet continued studying in her room. After 5 consecutive glasses, Mr. Duoc molested the child.

Before leaving, the "blue beard" gave Tuyet 100,000 VND to pay for the bottle of wine and gave her the change, telling her "don't tell anyone. If this gets out, both of us will get a bad reputation."

After having sex for the first time, Mr. Duoc gave the girl a phone and told her to "call me when mom is not home". According to the accusation, from April 2014 to October 2015, Mr. Duoc had sex with Tuyet many times.

In December 2015, seeing her daughter showing unusual signs, Ms. Thuy took her to the doctor and was shocked to learn that her daughter was 26 weeks pregnant. The DNA test results showed that the fetus was Mr. Duoc's child. Currently, the baby boy is 6 months old and healthy.

Presenting in court, Mr. Duoc admitted the content of the prosecutor's accusation, said he loved Tuyet before committing the crime, and had no intention of avoiding the fact that he had made her pregnant.

Admitting that he lost himself because of alcohol, the 68-year-old defendant said: "I am proud that I did wrong and now have a son together."

The panel of judges allowed the defendant to turn back to say a few words to the victim. He stated: "I would like to apologize to the victim's family and relatives; please forgive me for what I did. I am now almost 70 years old and my health is poor. If I complete my rehabilitation soon, I would like to return to help take care of my child."

The defendant said his income was only based on his war invalid salary of more than one million VND, so he asked for a monthly allowance of 200,000 VND to raise his child, otherwise he would not be able to afford more.

In the indictment, the representative of the People's Procuracy proposed a sentence of 8 years in prison for the crime of Rape of children and 2 years in prison for the crime of Sexual intercourse with children.

The panel of judges adjourned for deliberation and will announce the verdict on September 14.
