Leaked information suggests that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may adopt a dual-brand camera strategy, upgrading both the main 1-inch sensor and the telephoto camera to 200MP.
The latest leaks about the Xiaomi 17 Ultra suggest that the company may be preparing a significant strategic move in the field of mobile photography. The data indicates that the upcoming flagship model will not only feature powerful hardware upgrades but also adopt a dual-brand approach depending on the market.
Leica and Leitzphone's dual-brand strategy
According to leaked images and information, Xiaomi appears to be launching two camera branding versions for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Specifically, in the Chinese market, the device may be called "Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica". Meanwhile, the version for the international market will most likely appear under the name "Leitzphone", manufactured directly by Xiaomi.
This approach suggests a deeper collaboration with Leica, while also reflecting a marketing strategy tailored to each region. This is further reinforced by the leaked model number list. The "Leica" versions are said to have model numbers 2512BPNDAG, 2512BPNDAI, and 2512BPNDAC. Conversely, the "Leitzphone" series, which uses Xiaomi's hardware platform, has model numbers 25128PNA1G and 25128PNA1C.
A comprehensive upgrade to the camera hardware.
Besides the branding strategy, the camera system's specifications are also expected to see significant improvements. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be equipped with a brand-new 1-inch main sensor, specifically the 50MP OVX10500U (OV50X) Light Hunter 1050U.
The rear camera system also includes a 50MP S5KJN5 ultra-wide-angle camera and a 200MP S5KHPE telephoto camera. The removal of the fourth camera, contrary to previous rumors, suggests Xiaomi may be focusing resources on the ultra-high-resolution telephoto sensor, promising impressive optical and hybrid zoom capabilities, combined with advanced computational photography algorithms.
On the front, the selfie camera has also been upgraded in resolution from 32MP to 50MP. This is a notable change, showing Xiaomi's investment in image quality from the front camera, meeting the increasing demands for video calls, selfies, and social media content creation.
