Xiaomi 17 Ultra revealed: 1-inch sensor, 200MP Leica camera.
Xiaomi has officially revealed the design and sample photos of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, featuring a 1-inch OmniVision sensor and a 200MP telephoto camera developed in collaboration with Leica.
Xiaomi Group's Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Xu Fei, has officially released the first design images and sample photos from the upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. These details confirm that the device will continue to focus on photography with a high-end camera system developed in collaboration with Leica.
The familiar design focuses on the camera cluster.
According to the shared video, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra retains a similar design language to its predecessors, such as the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The phone has a white back panel, highlighted by a large circular camera module in the center. The Leica logo is positioned in the middle of the camera module, confirming the strategic collaboration between the two brands. Above it are two symmetrically placed flashlights.
Maintaining this design is believed to optimize space for integrating increasingly large and complex camera hardware components into a high-end mobile device.
The Leica camera system has been comprehensively upgraded.
The focus of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra's upgrades lies in its rear camera system, which includes three lenses with significant hardware improvements. This is the first product to mark a new and deeper "strategic partnership" model with Leica.
OmniVision OV50X 1-inch main sensor
The camera is equipped with a new 1-inch OmniVision OV50X main sensor, developed in China. This sensor incorporates third-generation LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology, promising significant improvements in dynamic range and low-light imaging performance.
200MP periscope telephoto lens
The second highlight is the 200-megapixel Leica-branded periscope telephoto lens. Xiaomi says this camera module is about 35% larger than the previous generation. Notably, this lens has received Leica APO (Apochromatic) optical certification, a high-end standard that minimizes chromatic aberration (purple fringing) and enhances sharpness, especially when shooting at long zoom ranges.
Initial test shots reveal the ability to handle low-light conditions.
Along with the design reveal, Xiaomi also shared the first sample photo taken with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The photo shows the device's impressive light-gathering and detail-processing capabilities in challenging lighting conditions, reinforcing the new collaboration's goal of enhancing night photography.
