Asking his wife to sell drugs one last time, the "boss" in Nghe An received a life sentence
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite having two previous convictions related to drugs and still serving his sentence at Quang Binh Prison, "boss" Nguyen Xuan Chien still directs "crazy man" Vo Van Ha and his wife to illegally buy and sell drugs.
On November 5, 2018, Nghe An Provincial People's Court sentenced defendants Nguyen Xuan Chien (born in 1981), Nguyen Thi Vinh (born in 1981), both residing in Khanh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, and defendant Vo Van Ha (born in 1987, residing in Dien Loi, Dien Chau) to the first instance trial for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".

According to the indictment, Nguyen Xuan Chien is serving a 19-year prison sentence for “Illegal transportation of drugs” at Dong Son Prison (Quang Binh) but managed to hide 2 phones in his cell. Chien contacted Tran My Chien to discuss buying drugs and she agreed to buy 10 packets of pink phien each time. Nguyen Xuan Chien then contacted a Laotian man named Po (who had previously sold drugs to Chien) and she agreed.
After contacting the drug seller and buyer, Chien called his wife, Nguyen Thi Vinh, and said, “Can I do this one more trip?” After learning that her husband intended to buy and sell drugs, Vinh tried to dissuade him, but Chien did not listen.
On July 30, 2017, Chien contacted Vo Van Ha to discuss going to Cau Treo border gate (Huong Son district, Ha Tinh) to deliver drugs to a Lao man. Ha agreed and at the same time instructed his wife, Nguyen Thi Vinh, to prepare money for Ha.
Following Chien's instructions, Vinh gave Ha 12,000 USD and 3 million VND to go to Cau Treo border gate (Ha Tinh) to deliver drugs. Ha rented a car to bring more than 2kg of synthetic drugs and 1 heroin cake to deliver to customers. When arriving at Son Tay commune (Huong Son, Ha Tinh), he was discovered and arrested by authorities.
Searching Nguyen Thi Vinh's house and the land managed by the couple, the Nghe An Provincial Police Investigation Agency discovered a newly dug-up plot of land with suspicious signs. During the inspection, the investigation team discovered an electronic scale, 2 mobile phones, a white potylene bag containing a brownish-white crystalline substance, and 7 identical white potylene packages containing a white crystalline substance. During the investigation, Chien confessed that the crystalline substance seized by the authorities was methamphetamine, which Chien kept to sell to others before being arrested by Quang Binh Provincial Police.
In 2013, Chien was sentenced to 30 months in prison by the Anh Son District People's Court for "Illegal possession of narcotics". In August 2017, Chien was sentenced to 19 years in prison by the Da Nang High People's Court on appeal for "Illegal transportation of narcotics".
The panel of judges determined: The actions of the three defendants were extremely serious and dangerous to society and must be strictly punished by law. Based on the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Nguyen Xuan Chien to life in prison for the crime of “Illegal drug trafficking”; defendant Nguyen Thi Vinh to 7 years in prison; defendant Vo Van Ha to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
