Stirring up because hybrid wild boar meat is cheaper than regular pork
Pig prices are rising sharply, but many stores still sell hybrid wild boar meat cheaper than pork belly sold in the market.
The price of regular live pigs is rising and can reach 80,000 VND per kg, while pork belly in many markets costs 180,000 - 200,000 VND per kg. Meanwhile, domestic hybrid wild boars - a small quantity - are being sold at a cheaper price.

Ms. Hang, a food supplier in District 8, is constantly advertising new arrivals of 100 kg of wild boar meat mixed with pork belly. Each kg costs 160,000 VND, and if customers want to buy pre-marinated meat, the price goes up to 180,000 VND. According to her, she comes in about 4 times a month but is always sold out.
But there are still places that sell cheaper than Ms. Hang. Ms. Hanh in Thu Duc said she is selling for 140,000 VND per kg, and if you buy pre-marinated goods, the price is 150,000 VND. According to her, the pigs are purchased in the village in Buon Ma Thuot, so the price is attractive. To ensure safety, after slaughtering, she has to freeze the meat to keep it fresh and delicious.
Not only in Ho Chi Minh City, in Vung Tau, in mid-October, many sources also sell for 100,000 VND per kg, customers who buy 3-5 kg get free shipping.

However, talking toVnExpressMr. Thao, owner of a hybrid wild boar farm in Di An, Binh Duong, said that it is impossible to have the above price for this product.
Because the price of hybrid wild boar is currently being sold at 120,000 - 140,000 VND per kg. Therefore, slaughtered meat must be around 200,000 - 250,000 VND per kg. Not to mention, this year the epidemic is increasing, many wild boar farming households are also suffering the same fate, so many pigs are infected, the number of survivors is low. For households with commercial pigs, they have to pay additional quarantine fees and deal with disease prevention and raising costs, so it is very difficult to get the above price.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Hoa, the owner of a pig farm in Binh Phuoc, also said that slaughtered and frozen pigs cannot be priced below VND200,000 per kilogram, especially when the price of hybrid wild boar is already VND135,000 per kilogram. He said that his farm is also running out of resources due to the raging epidemic. Not to mention, raising hybrid wild boar is more difficult than raising regular pigs.
"Therefore, to buy quality products, buyers must clearly understand the origin to avoid buying poor quality or counterfeit products," said Mr. Hoa.
Market survey shows that pork in the South costs 64,000 VND per kilogram, in the North and Central regions it ranges from 65,000-76,000 VND (depending on the region).
In Ho Chi Minh City, the price of pork belly is usually 168,000-170,000 VND per kg, ribless pork belly is 200,000 VND, baby ribs are 210,000 VND per kg, pig's feet are 110,000 VND per kg, and bones range from 80,000-120,000 VND.
