Heartbreaking story of a 12-year-old child with a brain tumor.
In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), Mr. Nguyen Huu Viet and Mrs. Tran Thi The, originally from Bich Hao commune, Nghe An province, currently residing in Group 5, Thien Binh neighborhood, Tam Phuoc ward, Dong Nai province, received devastating news when their 12-year-old daughter, Nguyen Mai Vy, a 6th-grade student, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to be admitted to Children's Hospital 2 for emergency surgery.

Viet and The are from the same hometown, Thanh Tung commune, formerly Thanh Chuong district, now Bich Hao commune, Nghe An province. Viet's family is in dire straits; his father is bedridden back home, and his mother is paralyzed after several strokes. For the past few years, Viet and his wife have been working as laborers in Dong Nai province to make a living.

Mai Vy is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Viet, currently in 6th grade (out of 9) at Tam Phuoc Ward Secondary School, Dong Nai Province. For about a month now, she has been showing signs of memory loss and pain in her legs and arms. When taken to the doctor, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required urgent surgery.
On February 3rd, the child underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Currently, Mai Vy is in the Intensive Care and Toxicology Unit at Children's Hospital 2. Doctors have informed the family that she will have to undergo a long course of treatment.

His wife works as a factory worker in a garment factory; Mr. Viet is a freelance worker, sometimes a bricklayer, sometimes a metalworker. A few years ago, he had a work accident and had to have several fingers amputated, making it difficult for him to find work. Before that, Ms. The also had an accident and suffered severe burns to both hands while working as a hired laborer. Irregular work and unstable income, coupled with their daughter's hospitalization, surgery, and treatment for a brain tumor, have made their family situation even more difficult and dire.

Back in Bich Hao, upon hearing the news that his grandson had a brain tumor and needed surgery, Mr. Nguyen Huu Minh's condition worsened. Neighbors rushed around to help him. His wife, Mrs. Bo, sat distraught in her wheelchair. After several strokes, both of them were in very poor health and required constant care. Last year, their son, Viet, had to return home for a whole year to care for his parents, leaving his two children in Dong Nai for his wife to look after. Just as he was earning a little extra money from odd jobs to provide for his wife, children, and bedridden parents for Tet (Lunar New Year), the devastating news struck, leaving the family's breadwinner on the verge of collapse.

During the days his daughter was undergoing surgery and lying in the intensive care unit, Mr. and Mrs. Viet were distraught with worry, rushing back and forth between Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, borrowing money to care for their child. “The doctors said my daughter will need long-term treatment, the costs will be high, and they are guiding the family to verify our difficult circumstances in our hometown of Nghe An so we can apply for some assistance. We hope for a miracle for my daughter so she can live and go to school with her friends…,” Mr. Viet said, his voice trembling with emotion.
Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Head of Tung Phuc Hamlet, Bich Hao Commune, said that Mr. Nguyen Huu Viet's family is in extremely difficult circumstances. "Mr. Minh is a war invalid, and both he and his wife have been bedridden for several years. Now, Mr. Viet's daughter has a brain tumor and needs surgery, which has exhausted the family's resources. We sincerely hope for the support and assistance of philanthropists so that the child can receive treatment and the family can overcome this hardship soon," shared Hamlet Head Hoang Van Dung.
