A new scam targeting parents has emerged.
Following the "child in the hospital emergency room" scam, a new tactic targeting parents has emerged. This involves scammers calling parents to inform them that their child has "purchased goods but hasn't paid for them."
Kim Lien High School (Dong Da District, Hanoi) has just issued an urgent notice to all parents about a new scam. The scam involves individuals calling parents to inform them that their children have "purchased goods but haven't paid for them."
Providing further information on this matter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Principal of Kim Lien High School, stated: Recently, some parents of students at the school have received calls from unknown numbers informing them that their children have purchased goods, food, clothing, or other items but have not paid in full and have left their student ID cards behind. The scammers then use these numbers to demand that parents send money to a bank account provided by the scammers.

To avoid falling into the trap of malicious individuals, the school administration requests that teachers inform all parents and students to be vigilant. In case of receiving a call with such a request, parents should remain calm and contact the teacher or school staff to confirm.
Also on March 24th, several schools and English centers in Hoang Mai district issued notices about the current "child abduction" incidents in the area, urging parents to be vigilant.
According to an announcement from Ocean Edu Linh Đàm Center in Hoang Mai District, there have been incidents of child abduction in the area. The perpetrators target students, especially those who walk to school. “We request that parents agree on a time to pick up their children. When picking up, please gather in the lobby on the first and second floors of the center. For students who walk home on their own, please inform the homeroom teacher via text message,” the announcement stated.

Previously, after carrying out a series of scams targeting parents in Ho Chi Minh City using the tactic of "their child is in the hospital in critical condition," the perpetrators continued to "attack" parents in Hanoi and Da Nang.
The Ministry of Public Security, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, and most schools in Hanoi have issued warnings and disseminated information to parents and students to raise awareness and remain calm to avoid becoming victims of this sophisticated scam.
Shortly afterwards, the Ministry of Education and Training also sent a document to provincial Departments of Education and Training, universities, academies, and teacher training colleges to inform them about the fraudulent schemes targeting parents and students.
In the document, the Ministry of Education and Training stated that, according to data from the Ministry of Public Security, from the beginning of March 2023 to the present, the Ho Chi Minh City Police have recorded 14 cases of parents being scammed using the "urgent money transfer, child in emergency care" scheme, totaling 825 million VND.
