According to RIA Novosti on May 7, US President Donald Trump believes the US-Iran conflict will soon come to an end, despite the fact that negotiations are still quite tense.

Speaking at an online campaign rally in support of Burt Jones, the Republican gubernatorial candidate for Georgia, Trump emphasized: "The vast majority of the public understands that our actions are correct and that this conflict will end quickly."

Earlier, the US leader also issued a statement affirming that he was not setting any deadline for negotiations with Iran, but at the same time expressed absolute confidence in the ability to reach a common agreement.

Meanwhile, based on Washington's new counterterrorism strategy, the Trump administration continues to assess Iran as the top threat to the United States originating from the Middle East.

This strategic document states: "The greatest threat to the United States from the Middle East comes from Iran itself, both directly through its nuclear and missile capabilities, and indirectly through the billions of dollars it provides to proxy groups, including Hezbollah."

According to Axios, the White House believes that the US and Iran may soon sign a 14-point memorandum of understanding to formally end the conflict. This landmark move is expected to pave the way for a completely new phase of negotiations between the two countries. According to intelligence sources, Washington is currently awaiting a response from Tehran to this proposal within the next two days.

On the Iranian side, in a phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian clearly stated his country's position. Pezeshkian emphasized that the continuation and effectiveness of negotiations between Iran and the US would depend entirely on the cessation of the military conflict. At the same time, Washington needs to provide Tehran with firm assurances that such attacks will not be repeated in the future.

Looking back at the events, on February 28, the US and Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting objectives in Iranian territory. This attack resulted in over 3,000 deaths. By April 8, Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement and declared a two-week ceasefire.

However, subsequent rounds of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without yielding any substantive results.
