Severely degraded, the people's bridge in Quynh Luu will be rebuilt

(Baonghean.vn) - There have been dozens of accidents, including 3 deaths, when the bridge across the Thai River connecting Quynh Hung and Quynh Dien communes (Quynh Luu district) was seriously degraded.

After the People's Committees of Quynh Hung and Quynh Dien communes submitted a request to the province and district for support in building the bridge, the provincial People's Committee recently approved the plan to rebuild the bridge with a budget of 4.5 billion VND. Of which, the provincial budget supports 3 billion VND, Quynh Luu district 1 billion VND and Quynh Hung and Quynh Dien communes 500 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quy - Vice Chairman of Quynh Luu District People's Committee said: The bridge is newly built, 3.5m wide, 35m long, the road section at both ends of the bridge, design criteria for type B rural roads. Project implementation time is 2020 - 2021. The completed bridge will meet the travel needs of the people.

Taking us to see the bridge, Mr. Ho Xuan Minh - Secretary and Head of Hamlet 12, Quynh Hung Commune (Quynh Luu) said: The people's bridge across Thai River connecting Hamlet 1, Quynh Dien Commune and Hamlet 12, Quynh Hung Commune is called Monkey Bridge by the people here, and was built by contributions from the people of the two localities in 2005. After a long time of use, the bridge has now degraded, causing difficulties for people's daily travel, especially during the rainy season, when the bridge can collapse at any time.

Every day, hundreds of people pass by this bridge. Every time they pass by, they are very worried because the bridge has seriously degraded. The bridge is 35m long but only 1m wide, while the railing system that ensures safety is broken, the bridge has a very dangerous uphill and downhill slope. This is the cause of some cases of vehicles falling into the river, causing fatal drowning.

Decision of the Provincial People's Committee on approving the investment policy for the project to build a bridge across the Thai River connecting the two communes of Quynh Dien and Quynh Hung (Quynh Luu district).
