Yen Thanh district has planted nearly 1,000 hectares of VietGAP-certified rice.
(Baonghean.vn) - This Spring 2019, many localities in Yen Thanh district have been contracted by businesses to cultivate nearly 1,000 hectares of clean rice according to VietGAP standards.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sang, head of Phan Thanh hamlet, Long Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district), said: "In the Spring of 2018, the villagers planted nearly 1 hectare of VietGAP-certified rice. At harvest time, businesses came to buy it directly from the fields at a price of 6,000 VND/kg, bringing in 3 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters)."

This Spring 2019, the villagers are continuing to cultivate VietGAP-certified rice on the same area. They have already received the seeds and sown the seedlings.
Mr. Dang Trong Cu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nam Long Cooperative in Long Thanh commune, added: "In the Spring 2019 season, the cooperative planted 50 hectares of rice according to VietGAP standards, nearly double the amount planted in the previous winter-spring season."
Farmers in Yen Thanh district have been applying the VietGAP standard for clean rice production since the 2018 winter-spring crop. Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Yen Thanh district, said that this winter-spring crop saw the entire district planting over 12,000 hectares of rice, including nearly 1,000 hectares of clean rice using the Qj1 variety.

These 1,000 hectares of rice are cultivated in many communes: Tho Thanh, Long Thanh, Bac Thanh, Xuan Thanh, Hong Thanh, Van Thanh... All of the clean rice products will be purchased by businesses at a price higher than the market price.
