Yen Thanh postpones Lotus Festival due to Typhoon No. 2.

(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the aftermath of Typhoon No. 2, Phuc Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province) had to postpone the first Lotus Flower Festival. However, the live music show by Quynh Nhu and her fellow performers from "Future Idol" was still held on the night of July 22nd in the locality.

Mr. Dinh Van Duong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Thanh commune, said: With the agreement of the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district, Phuc Thanh commune has postponed the Lotus Flower Festival at Dieu Oc lake, which was scheduled to open in mid-July.

According to Mr. Duong, Typhoon No. 2, which hit Yen Thanh, caused significant damage to many localities. The Dieu Oc lotus pond – the venue for the Lotus Festival – was severely flooded, with lotus flowers and leaves scattered everywhere. The road surrounding the pond collapsed, and trees were uprooted. At the Duc Hoang temple, power poles and large trees were knocked down. Overall, the lotus pond area looked quite desolate.

In response to this situation, the People's Committee of Phuc Thanh commune submitted a proposal to postpone the Lotus Festival to the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district. On July 19th, Yen Thanh district sent a delegation of officials to coordinate with the local authorities to inspect the situation and reached a consensus: the Lotus Festival will be postponed.

Mr. Duong emphasized: "It's impossible to organize the Lotus Festival when the lotus pond's landscape is so desolate. Organizing the first lotus festival with such a dilapidated lotus pond and flowers will leave a bad impression on visitors."

It is known that the local authorities had previously prepared everything from infrastructure (building a road system around the lake, erecting bamboo docks, etc.) to establishing subcommittees and staging programs, all ready for the festival. However, the Lotus Flower Festival could not take place as expected.

Mr. Duong added that, due to the aftermath of the storm, the Lotus Festival did not take place, but the live music show by Quynh Nhu and her fellow performers from "Future Idol" was still held on the night of July 22nd in the local area.
