Yen Thanh postpones Lotus Festival due to storm No. 2

(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the consequences of storm No. 2, Phuc Thanh commune (Yen Thanh, Nghe An) had to postpone the first Lotus Festival. However, the live music show of Quynh Nhu and her co-stars from "Future Idol" was still held on the night of July 22 in the locality.

Mr. Dinh Van Duong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Thanh commune said: With the consent of the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district, Phuc Thanh commune has postponed the organization of the Lotus Festival at Dieu Oc lake, which was scheduled to open in mid-July.

According to Mr. Duong, storm No. 2 that hit Yen Thanh caused great damage to many localities, especially the Dieu Oc lotus lake - where the Lotus Festival was being held - was heavily flooded, lotus flowers and leaves were scattered. The road surrounding the lake was submerged, trees were tilted. At Duc Hoang temple, electric poles and large trees were knocked down and broken. In general, the lotus lake landscape was quite desolate.

Faced with this situation, the People's Committee of Phuc Thanh commune has submitted a proposal to postpone the Lotus Festival to the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district. On July 19, Yen Thanh district sent a delegation of officials to coordinate with the locality to inspect the situation and reached an agreement: Postpone the Lotus Festival.

Mr. Duong emphasized: “It is impossible to organize the Lotus Festival when the lotus pond landscape is so desolate. Organizing the lotus festival for the first time with a lotus pond and lotus flowers like that will leave a bad impression on visitors.”

It is known that before that, the locality had prepared from the material facilities (building the traffic system around the lake, building bamboo wharfs...) to establish sub-committees, staging programs... ready for the festival. However, the Lotus Festival could not take place as expected.

Mr. Duong added that due to the consequences of the storm, the Lotus Festival did not take place, but the live music show of Quynh Nhu and her co-stars from "Future Idol" was still held on the night of July 22 in the locality./.
