Focus on VietGAP production and organic rice.

This year, Yen Thanh district will plant 12,800 hectares of spring rice, and local authorities are currently actively preparing all necessary conditions for the new crop.

In addition, Yen Thanh is also strengthening links with companies such as TH Group, Vinh Hoa Co., Ltd., Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company; Central Seed Company, Thai Binh Seed Company, Central Agriculture Joint Stock Company and other businesses to organize linkages in rice seed production, raw rice production, and commercial rice production.

Yen Thanh district prioritizes minimizing the use of low-quality, low-yield rice varieties and those with long growing seasons. For high-yield, high-quality rice varieties that are susceptible to pests and diseases and sensitive to weather conditions, comprehensive technical solutions are needed to ensure production safety.

The district directs each locality to select 2-3 main hybrid rice varieties and 2-3 main pure rice varieties; in the same field, only 1 or 2 rice varieties with similar growth periods should be planted, and planting must be completed within 2-3 days to effectively meet the requirements for care and pest and disease management.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Vice Chairman of the Yen Thanh District People's Committee, added: This spring, Yen Thanh continues to focus on applying scientific and technological advancements, VietGAP production processes, organic rice, commercial rice, and rice seeds. Mechanization is being implemented comprehensively, from tray seedling planting and automatic drone spraying for plant protection to harvesting and post-harvest technology. The area where mechanization is applied comprehensively will be expanded, from land preparation, tray seedling planting, machine transplanting, care, irrigation, harvesting, and drying of rice. Simultaneously, new mechanizations such as straw balers, seed sprayers for seedling preparation/planting, and motorized sprayers for applying pesticides and liquid fertilizers will be implemented.

At the same time, Yen Thanh district is strengthening the transfer of scientific and technological advancements through training, propaganda, and the construction of large-scale demonstration models; leveraging the strength of agricultural extension and plant protection forces from the district to the grassroots level to quickly and promptly implement major policies of the sector to the people; integrating scientific programs and projects to build models for transferring scientific and technological advancements synchronously into production; and developing intensive farming systems towards commercial, clean, and safe agricultural production.

Yen Thanh District directs localities to closely monitor targets, plans, structures, and fertilizer and seed usage needs of communes and towns to ensure timely supply and arrange supply points to facilitate producers. As of now, Yen Thanh District has two major suppliers of agricultural materials: Nghe An Agricultural Materials Company, which has supplied over 3,000 tons of NPK fertilizer and 100 tons of rice seeds to farmers in Yen Thanh District since October 1st; and Cung Hue Service Company, which has supplied over 2,500 tons of Tien Nong and Dau Trau fertilizers, Phu My urea, etc.

Proactively implement disease prevention measures for crops.

The district recommends increasing the use of organic fertilizers and treating the soil with lime before planting, especially in areas affected by black stripe dwarf disease. Early and sufficient topdressing should be implemented, along with proper technical care as instructed, to ensure good plant growth from the start. The district is strengthening inspections of seed quality, fertilizers, and pesticides in the area. Strict action will be taken against those supplying substandard materials to protect the rights of farmers.

The spring crop of 2022 is predicted to continue to have warm weather, and the rice variety structure will focus on quality, so there is a risk that some pests and diseases will appear early and have the potential to cause severe damage over a wide area. In particular, diseases such as rice blast (leaf blast and neck blast), bacterial leaf blight, various types of planthoppers, rodent damage, and fall armyworm damage to corn are at risk.

For irrigation water for spring crop production, localities in Yen Thanh district are carrying out repairs to irrigation works, field embankments, and canal dredging… combined with the October 16th irrigation campaign, clearing the areas surrounding irrigation works, and ensuring sufficient water storage for production. Based on the specific water resources available in the locality, the communes in the district have planned crop structures and crop conversion in a rational manner; developing scientific irrigation plans that thoroughly conserve water to ensure both spring crop production in 2022 and summer-autumn crop production in 2022.

In addition, the district directed communes to carry out field sanitation, instruct farmers to plow and dry the fields, then flood them with water to create a good foundation for intensive cultivation to serve the spring planting season; implement crop restructuring in areas likely to experience water shortages and in areas with low-yield rice cultivation in the spring of 2022; and coordinate with the Yen Thanh Irrigation Enterprise to proactively develop specific drought prevention plans from the beginning of the production season.

In particular, amidst the complex developments of the pandemic, Yen Thanh district directed localities to ensure COVID-19 prevention and control measures were in place for spring crop production; and introduced mechanization into production to minimize the number of direct laborers in the fields, thereby effectively combating the pandemic.
