YonhapA guard at a villa for leader Kim Jong-un recently defected from the country, Pastor Peter Jung, head of a civic organization called “Justice for North Korea,” was quoted as saying by the Associated Press on July 5.
“A guard trained to guard Kim Jong-un’s villa in the border city of Sinuiju, North Pyongan Province, crossed the Amnok River to defect around June 10,” the pastor told Yonhap by phone.
The guard defected on the 25th day of training after joining the unit guarding the North Korean leader's villa, the pastor said. He is believed to be safe in a house in China, waiting to come to South Korea, Pastor Peter Jung said.
“He decided to defect after being exposed to Korean culture before joining the army,” the pastor said.
