Zerok is recalling over 38,000 Zerok 001 WE vehicles due to a battery defect that poses a potential safety risk.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Zeekr has announced a large-scale recall of its Zeekr 001 WE model due to a technical defect related to the battery system. This decision was made after the company determined that some batches of batteries could pose a safety risk to users during long-term operation.

According to information from China's General Administration of Market Regulation, this recall is coded S2026M0023V. A total of 38,277 Zeekr 001 WE scooters are affected, specifically Zeekr 001 WE 86 models manufactured between July 8, 2021, and March 18, 2024.

Zhejiang Zeekr Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. has officially authorized Zhejiang Geely Automobile Co., Ltd. to handle the legal procedures and implement this recall plan. The program is expected to officially begin on March 6, 2026.

Technical causes and potential risks

Through the testing process, Zeekr determined that the root cause lay in a manufacturing defect in the internal components of certain battery batches. This defect caused the battery's internal resistance to increase abnormally after a period of actual use.

Increased electrical resistance not only reduces vehicle performance and range but can also lead to extreme situations. In some cases, this issue poses a serious safety risk, requiring prompt technical intervention from the manufacturer.

Solutions and customer rights

To thoroughly address the issue, Zeekr will implement a multi-tiered inspection process. The company will conduct remote diagnostics via a cloud-based data system to screen vehicles showing abnormal signs. For vehicles identified with component defects, Zeekr commits to replacing the entire battery pack completely free of charge.

Notably, this free replacement program applies to recalled vehicles that have never had their batteries replaced before. This is seen as a decisive move by the electric vehicle brand, part of the Geely group, to maintain its reputation and ensure the highest safety standards for consumers in the context of a fiercely competitive electric vehicle market.
