Zidane could be fined for defending Ronaldo.

The French coach is being investigated by the Refereeing Technical Committee following criticisms he made during a press conference on August 15th.

Zinedine Zidane said in a press conference ahead of the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona at the Bernabeu: "Ronaldo has received too harsh a punishment. The disciplinary committee needs to review the whole picture. Banning him for five matches is a mistake."

These comments from the French legend led to an investigation by the Spanish Refereeing Technical Committee. According to Marca, Zidane could face a fine.

Zidane defended Ronaldo after the Portuguese superstar received a five-match ban.

Any punishment for the Real Madrid coach, if it occurs, would not be the first such case in La Liga. Previously, Gerard Pique and Jose Mourinho were fined for criticizing and using inappropriate language towards Spanish football officials.

A source from the Spanish Football Federation told Marca: "Zidane's words are being studied. A reprimand and a penalty may be imposed on him."

Despite the looming suspension, Zidane and his team secured a 2-0 victory in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup, thus claiming their second title of the 2017-2018 season.
