In addition to 1,000 soldiers, the exercise also involved more than 300 vehicles and modern military weapons such as self-propelled artillery systems and self-propelled multiple rocket launchers. In addition, Kamov Ka-27 and Mil Mi-8 helicopters also participated in supporting the infantry during the exercise.

The Eastern Military District, one of the four strategic combat units of the Russian Armed Forces, said the exercise in Kamchatka was successful.

The Russian exercise took place in the context of more than 3,500 soldiers from the US, UK, Germany and many NATO member countries participating in the annual exercise called “Silver Arrow 2017”, scheduled to end on October 29. Originally a separate exercise, by 2014, many countries decided to participate and turn “Silver Arrow” into a multinational exercise.

Russia has repeatedly voiced its opposition to NATO's military activities near its borders, saying the military alliance is upsetting the regional security balance and threatening Moscow's security.

Chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee Vladimir Shamanov said on October 12 that Moscow will deploy additional Iskander strategic missiles to the Kaliningrad region in response to recent US military build-up in the Baltic region. Moscow said that Washington is secretly deploying an armored division to the Baltic, which is a violation of the agreement between Moscow and NATO.
