In Vietnam, up to now, there have been 60 species of venomous snakes discovered, however, the krait is one of the most venomous snakes. The krait species that often causes poisoning is the Northern krait (Bungarus multicinctus)and southern krait (Bungarus candidus).
Krait snake venom contains post-synaptic toxins and especially pre-synaptic toxins that cause prolonged flaccid paralysis. Krait snake venom and southern krait snake venom may contain natriuretic peptide toxins that increase renal sodium excretion leading to hyponatremia.
