(Baonghean.vn) -The 'Flood buoy' project has just surveyed 10 schools without national grid electricity in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district (Nghe An) to install free electrical equipment running on wind and solar energy to serve teaching and learning.

» 40 border villages do not have national grid electricity

After Nghe An Newspaper reported that some villages in Que Phong district did not have national grid electricity, on October 28 and 29, members of the "Flood buoy" project directly surveyed 10 schools without national grid electricity in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district to install free wind and solar power equipment, helping teachers and students have enough light for teaching and learning.

10 schools include: Primary school in Moi village 1 and 2, Kindergarten in Moi village 1 and 2; Nam Tot primary school; Huoi Xai primary school 1 and 2, Kindergarten in Hoi Xai 1; Primary school in Muong Long and Pa Khom villages.

The survey shows that the wind and sunlight levels at the schools are suitable for wind and solar power equipment. Materials used for equipment installation are also available on the market in Kim Son Town. Therefore, it is convenient for future installation.

However, according to Ms. Pham Thi Huyen - Coordinator of the "Flood Buoy" Project, because the capacity of each device is not large, the project will not install one machine at each location, but will ask the commune to choose 2-3 most difficult schools to install, providing enough light for students to study and teachers to live.

After surveying, the "Flood buoy" project will be installed next December.

Mr. Vi Van Cuong - Chairman of Tri Le Commune People's Committee shared: 10 primary and preschool schools of the commune that do not have national grid electricity are all located in Mong ethnic villages, far from the commune center, without roads, so traveling is very difficult. We hope that the project will support the installation of wind power and solar power equipment for the most disadvantaged schools, to reduce difficulties for teachers in the villages and create favorable conditions for children to study.

“Flood buoy” is a project initiated and implemented by 4 Vietnamese students participating in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) program on Environment, summer 2015, with the support and promotion of the YSEALI Program - US Department of State, and The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center (University of Montana, USA).

“Flood Lifebuoy 2017” will apply the knowledge and skills that the four project coordinators learned during the disaster risk reduction training course at the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program 2016 in the Philippines.
