100,000 French police join New Year security

(Baonghean.vn) - Security in the capital Paris as well as throughout France on New Year's Eve has been increased to the maximum with nearly 100,000 police, gendarmes and soldiers mobilized -French Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux said.

Of these, 52,600 police officers are on duty during New Year's Eve and the New Year holidays in January. In addition, 36,000 special combat gendarmes of the Rota are involved. In Paris, where street festivals take place on a large scale, more than 7,000 city police patrols are patrolling the central area and crowded places such as train stations, airports, as well as places with many tourists. Mr. Le Roux said that although the threat of a terrorist attack in France remains at a high level of alert, Paris authorities still want to welcome tourists from all over the world to enjoy the festivities and atmosphere of the New Year. However, for safety reasons, Paris is the first European country to not organize fireworks on New Year's Eve. And law enforcement officers have stepped in to prevent individuals and organizations from using amateur fireworks.

Security in France has been tightened since the Paris terror attacks in November 2015 that killed 130 people and the truck crash in Nice that killed more than 80 people.

“We must remain vigilant at all times and ask citizens to remain vigilant,” French Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux stressed.
