100% of new commune names in Nghe An do not have serial numbers attached

96.92% of voters in Nghe An agreed to change the name in the direction of not using district-level names with serial numbers, but using place names with traditional, cultural and historical elements.

On the morning of May 8, the Legal Committee of the Provincial People's Council organized the review of the resolution to be submitted to the 29th session of the 18th Provincial People's Council.

Attending the meeting were comrades: Nguyen Nam Dinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Nhu Khoi - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council.

At this meeting, the Legal Committee of the Provincial People's Council reviewed the Resolution on amending and supplementing a number of contents of Resolution No. 09/NQ-HDND dated April 28, 2025 of the Provincial People's Council, giving opinions on the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units in Nghe An province in 2025.

With the policy of amending the name to be easy to read, easy to remember and associated with local historical places, in the past time, the Steering Committee for the arrangement of commune-level administrative units and 2-level local government, the Department of Home Affairs has consulted to get voters' opinions on naming communes.

After adjusting the communes to be named according to the order of the district name, up to now, 82 commune-level administrative units have adjusted their names.

Accordingly, the Draft Resolution amends the names of 82 commune-level administrative units formed after the rearrangement in Resolution No. 09/NQ-HDND dated April 28, 2025 of the Provincial People's Council giving opinions on the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units in Nghe An province in 2025.

The process of collecting voters' opinions was carried out in accordance with the correct procedures, ensuring strictness, synchronization, openness, democracy and transparency. The result was that 96.92% agreed to change the new name in the direction of not using district-level names with serial numbers, but using place names with traditional, cultural and historical elements.

With this adjustment, 130 commune-level units have names that meet the project's requirements, do not overlap with each other, and are highly unified.

During the review, members agreed to adjust some contents of the resolution, and edit some words to ensure the strictness of the document. The Legal Committee unanimously approved it to submit to the 29th session of the 18th Provincial People's Council.

To ensure the draft is strict, in accordance with regulations and close to reality, delegates requested the drafting agency to review and edit some contents such as: the name of the commune after the merger, the name of the draft resolution, the wording in some content items... to complete the draft before submitting it to the Provincial People's Council meeting for consideration and decision.
