100 British prisoners escaped thanks to Hurricane Irma.
More than 100 British prisoners were recaptured after escaping from a prison on the British Virgin Islands thanks to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma.
The British newspaper Metro reported that the governor of the islands, Gus Jaspert, said that British prisoners from Balsam Ghut prison were arrested on September 14.
Mr. Jaspert said: "The authorities of the British Virgin Islands are very grateful to the police and military for their tireless efforts, which led to a comprehensively successful operation."
"This is a major step forward in the effort to rebuild this magnificent territory."
Previously, residents of the Virgin Islands said they were "terrified" of prisoners who had escaped due to the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
They said the looting was "horrific" and that the prisoners had committed rape.

Shanelle Williams, who sheltered 15 other people in her home after the storm hit, said: "You go into town, you see them rushing into shops, opening things and stealing everything."
"Since the army arrived, things have calmed down; the only remaining problem is that the prisoners are still on the run."
"They raped someone and tried to steal from someone else, it's terrifying."
Another woman also said she "didn't feel safe" after the storm.
British Foreign Secretary Alan Duncan said on Tuesday that the prisoners were a “total threat to law and order”.
