11 years in prison for the man who swindled more than 1 billion VND by applying for a job
(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of April 18, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of fraud and property appropriation against Duong Thi Tuyet (born in 1952, residing in Hung Loc commune, Vinh city).
The indictment of the Procuracy stated: Although she was a retired teacher, Duong Thi Tuyet still boasted that she had many connections who could help her find jobs. Believing Tuyet's words, from August 2011, Mr. Tran Xuan Huong (residing in Dien Chau district) brought 59 sets of documents and 814 million VND to Tuyet to ask her to find jobs for some of her children and siblings in the area. After receiving the money and documents from Huong, Tuyet pocketed the money and spent it without bringing any of the 59 documents to apply for jobs. After waiting too long without seeing any results, Mr. Huong met Tuyet to ask for her money back. Tuyet promised to return the entire amount, but by October 2011, she had only paid 184 million VND.

At the trial, Tuyet confessed honestly and promised to return all the money she had appropriated from the victims. Realizing that the defendant had repented and partially remedied the consequences of her actions (at that time, Duong Thi Tuyet had returned 184 million out of the total 1 billion 112 million VND she had appropriated from the victims), the panel sentenced Duong Thi Tuyet to 11 years in prison, requiring her to return all the money she had appropriated.
