On the afternoon of April 18th, 12 elementary school students from My Tan Elementary School in My Loc district, Nam Dinh province, were hospitalized after drinking boxed milk given as a promotional gift.

According to the students' parents, the incident occurred around 4 PM on April 18th after a group of milk marketers brought their products to My Tan Primary School to interact with the students and give them gifts of cartons of milk.

Just 2-3 minutes after drinking the concoction, dozens of children showed symptoms of headache, stomach ache, and nausea. Twelve of the most severely affected children were taken by the school and their families to the Nam Dinh Provincial Children's Hospital for emergency treatment, while the others with milder symptoms were taken home by their relatives for care.

Ms. Tran Ngoc Bich (residing in Thuong Trang hamlet, My Tan commune) said: "After drinking milk, my son showed symptoms of stomach pain and nausea. He was taken to the Nam Dinh Provincial Children's Hospital along with 11 other children."

Six children with more severe symptoms, including fever, abdominal pain, and inability to vomit, were transferred to the emergency department at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital.

Speaking to reporters at 7 PM on April 18th, Dr. Do Tien Dung (on duty at the emergency room of Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital) confirmed that the aforementioned cases were likely due to milk poisoning with symptoms of abdominal pain and chest tightness, and added that the children are currently being monitored and observed.

Mr. Bui Van Hai, the team leader of the Dutch Lady milk marketing group at My Tan Primary School, acknowledged that the group visited and distributed cartons of milk as gifts to all 586 students from grades 1 to 5 at the school.
