12 students had to be hospitalized for drinking marketed milk
On the afternoon of April 18, 12 elementary school students of My Tan Elementary School, My Loc District, Nam Dinh Province were taken to the emergency room after drinking boxed milk that was a marketing gift.
According to parents, the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on April 18 after a milk marketing group brought products to My Tan Primary School to interact and give gifts of carton milk to the school's students.
Just 2-3 minutes after drinking, dozens of children showed symptoms of headaches, stomachaches, and nausea. The 12 most seriously ill children were taken to Nam Dinh Provincial Children's Hospital by the school and their families for emergency treatment, while the other children with less serious injuries were taken home by relatives for care.
Ms. Tran Ngoc Bich (residing in Thuong Trang hamlet, My Tan commune) said: "My son had a stomachache and nausea after drinking milk. He was taken to Nam Dinh Provincial Children's Hospital with 11 other children."
Six children were more seriously ill with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, and inability to vomit, so they were transferred to the emergency room at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital.
Speaking to reporters at 7 p.m. on April 18, Dr. Do Tien Dung (on duty at the emergency room, Nam Dinh General Hospital) confirmed that the above cases were likely due to milk poisoning with symptoms of abdominal pain and chest tightness, and said that the children are still being controlled and monitored.
Mr. Bui Van Hai, head of the Dutch Lady milk marketing team at My Tan Primary School, admitted that the group came to exchange and give gifts of carton milk to all 586 students from grades 1 to 5 of the school./.
