The trial revealed that Cao Van Cong owned a bull which he used for breeding purposes for people in the area. Tuan had brought his family's bull to Cong's house twice for breeding, but both attempts were unsuccessful.
On the night of February 4th, Tuan met Cong while they were drinking. They discussed the issue of cattle, and Tuan complained that the cow's breeding was unsuccessful, yet Cong's wife still came to collect the money. An argument and physical altercation ensued. A short time later, Cong ran into the shop, grabbed a large knife, and stabbed Tuan multiple times. He only stopped when he saw the victim collapse.
Upon learning of the victim's death, Cao Van Cong attempted to flee but failed, subsequently surrendering to the police. At the trial, nearly 100 residents of Nam Anh commune crowded the courtroom to observe the proceedings. After hearing Cao Van Cong recount the details of the crime, representatives of the victim's family and local residents expressed outrage and urged the court to severely punish the murderer's brutal actions.
At the end of the trial, in addition to the 12-year prison sentence, Cao Van Cong was also ordered to pay the victim's family over 79 million VND in compensation.
