The 89th Academy Awards will take place on the morning of February 27, Vietnam time. Before the big day, let's take a look back at the "child" stars... before they entered adolescence.

1. Tatum O'Neal (1974). In 1974, O'Neal won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Paper Moon, when she was only 10 years old.

Forty years later, O'Neal remains the youngest actress to ever win an Oscar. She continues to act in television and film, but has yet to win another Oscar.

2. Jodie Foster (1977). At the age of 14, Foster was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her controversial role in Martin Scorcese's Taxi Driver (1976), in which Foster portrayed a young prostitute named Iris.

The Oscar nomination launched a blockbuster career for Foster, and in 1988 she won the Best Actress Oscar for The Accused and a second Oscar for her performance in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

3. Angelina Jolie (1986). Angelina Jolie was born to parents who were both Hollywood actors. She first appeared on the red carpet of the Oscars when she was only 10 years old, following her father, actor Jon Voight. However, she still stood out in the crowd thanks to her pretty face and white lace dress.

In 2000, Jolie returned to the film event and walked away with the Oscar for Best Actress, for her role in the film Girl, Interrupted.

4. Anna Paquin (1994). Paquin won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her first performance, in The Piano (1993), at the age of 11. Since then, she has acted in many TV shows and movies, including the X-Men movies, but has not been able to repeat her initial success.

5. Haley Joel Osment (2000). At the age of 11, Osment was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his breakthrough role in The Sixth Sense. Although Osment continued to pursue acting, he has yet to achieve any further success in the Oscar race.

6. Keisha Castle-Hughes (2004). Keisha Castle-Hughes was only 12 years old when she starred in Whale Rider (2003) and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. Most recently, Castle-Hughes appeared in the hit TV series Game of Thrones.

7. Jaden Smith (2007). Jaden is the son of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. In 2007, he acted with his father in the critically acclaimed film The Pursuit of Happyness. Although he was not nominated for an Oscar, Jaden still had the opportunity to stand on the awards stage to announce the results of an award category. During this time, Jaden tended to pursue music and art rather than acting.

8. Abigail Breslin (2007). Anyone who watches Little Miss Sunshine (2007) is quickly drawn into the story of the film, especially the character played by 10-year-old Abigail Breslin.

With her confident yet uncertain performance as a young girl participating in a "child" beauty pageant, this role earned Breslin an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

9. Saoirse Ronan (2008). Long before Saoirse Ronan (Ireland) was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Brooklyn (2015), she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the war epic Atonement (2007). Ronan made her Oscar red carpet debut in 2008, when she was just 13 years old.

10. Quvenzhane Wallis (2013). Quvenzhane Wallis was the youngest person ever nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, at the age of 9, for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Wallis starred in this film when she was only 6 years old. In 2014, Wallis continued to act in the film Annie.

11. Jacob Tremblay (2016). Room, a film about a mother and son in captivity, starring Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, received a lot of buzz during the 2016 Oscar race.

With his captivating performance in the film, the boy Tremley also became famous and he appeared radiantly on the red carpet of the 2016 Oscars when he was only 9 years old.

12. Sunny Pawar (2017). This year, all eyes are on India’s newest child star, Sunny Pawar, who stars in Lion, an Oscar nominee for Best Picture. Pawar’s family lives in the slums of Mumbai, but the youngster will be gracing the Oscars red carpet, and it probably won’t be his first.
