12 Russian intelligence officers charged by the US with hacking the presidential election
On July 13, the US Department of Justice announced the results of its investigation and officially charged 12 Russian military intelligence officers with hacking the 2016 US presidential election.
This information was announced just 3 days before the US-Russia summit in Helsinki, Finland.
In a statement on July 13, the US Department of Justice announced the conclusion of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

Mr. Mueller's conclusion indicted 12 members of the Russian military intelligence agency for involvement in “a sustained effort to penetrate the computer systems of the Democratic National Committee” and the email of candidate Hillary Clinton.
The indictment alleges that Russian intelligence agents hacked into the computer systems of the Democratic Party and John Podesta, chairman of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, and then intentionally leaked the information through sites like WikiLeaks.
The US Department of Justice announced the results of the investigation just three days before the historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland.
